Essay

The thesis focuses on the peculiarities of communicative behaviour of a depressive linguistic personality. Communicative behaviour is an integral part of the current anthropocentric scientific superparadigm, aimed at the study of various dimensions of human existence. The depressive linguistic personality as a fictional character is the subject of intratextual communication. The communicative behaviour of a depressive linguistic personality is reconstructed on the grounds of multi-level linguistic means related to the representation of a depressive linguistic personality in the English fictional text. Communicative behaviour is represented in two aspects – verbal (lexical and pragmatic) and non-verbal within the framework of the three varieties of depression (depressive accentuation, depressed state, and depressive symptom), which manifest three different types, each determined by the level of communicative competence. The non-verbal aspect of communicative behaviour of a depressive linguistic personality is highlighted with consideration to functional-expressive and communicative-pragmatic parameters, allowing to identify the depressed state of a personality and decode their communicative intentions. Key words: communicative behaviour, depressive linguistic personality, communicative competence, communicative strategy, communicative tactics, non-verbal component, communicative trait.
