Essay

The study claims that the infinitive has a dual verbal and nominal nature, which is manifested in its syntactic multifunctionality. Due to the integration of the infinitive into the verbal system, the infinitive has acquired the ability to govern and attach external and internal arguments and express the grammatical categories of aspect and voice. A sentence with an infinitive construction is a poly-predicativ eunit, and the infinitival clause itself is a secondary predication structure that adjoins the main part of the sentence based on the hypotaxis arrangement. The accusativus cum infinitivo construction is an objective-with-the-infinitive construction, which complements the meaning of the main verb.
