The thesis considers the problem of grammatical meaning and communicative orientation of all types of interrogative constructions through the prism of their functional role in the dialogical discourse of modern English detective novel. Interrogative sentences are understood in the work as syntactic constructions that are communicatively intended as questions and accordingly marked graphically. The material of the research is represented by personages' speech parties taken from modern English detective novels. The general corpus of samples counts 8.200 interrogative sentences.
