Essay

The research is dedicated to symphonic works of François-Joseph Gossec, a French 18th-century composer, in the aspect of comprehension of symphony's genre models in different national traditions and innovations in imagery, structure, form and composition, reflecting the influence of the unique French cultural and musical tradition. The dominant positions of the musical aesthetics of the middle of the Western European Enlightenment in general and French in particular are outlined and the development of the genre of symphony in the leading national schools of the middle of the 18th century is traced. The place of F.-J. Gossec in the development of the symphonic genre was reconsidered.
