The dissertation is dedicated to the complex study of the algae of the Kyiv highlands’ reservoirs. As a result of the study, the studied algal flora has been identified as plentiful and diverse with 990 species (1063 inf. taxa) belonging to 322 genera, 123 families, 60 orders, 19 classes and 10 divisions. Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Euglenophyta, and Cyanoprokaryota have formed the basis of the algae species diversity and responsible for 82.6% of the detected algal flora composition. The spectrum of leading families with 37.7% fraction consists of Euglenaceae, Scenedesmaceae, Desmidiaceae, Phacaceae, Bacillariaceae, Cymbellaceae, Pinnulariaceae, Oocystaceae, Chlamydomonadaceae, and Gomphonemataceae families. Increased diversity of the Euglenaceae and Scenedesmaceae families characterize the ecological status of reservoirs and their increased trophic status. The leading genera are Trachelomonas, Navicula, Nitzschia, Cosmarium, Pinnularia, Gomphonema, Phacus, Desmodesmus, Euglena, Closterium, and cover ~ 24% of the species composition of algae. Trachelomonas, Navicula, Nitzschia, Cosmarium, Pinnularia, Gomphonema, Phacus, Desmodesmus, Euglena, and Closterium are the leading genera.
A one-third of the species composition of the Middle Dnipro algofloristic subprovince and about a quarter of the composition of the algal flora of Ukraine are represented by Kyiv Highlands’ algae.
According to the results of our own research (2015 - 20 years), 638 species were identified (672 external taxa). For the first time, a total of 263 species (285 inf. taxa) were distinguished for reservoirs of the Kyiv Highlands. Among them, 5 species are new for the whole country, 32 species at first time noted to the Middle Dnipro algofloristic subprovince (=Ukrainian forest-steppe).The research also has succeeded in supplementing information on the distribution of 30 rare species for Ukraine's algal flora and 96 rare species for to the Middle Dnipro algofloristic subprovince.
As a result of the studies of water bodies of the Kyiv Highland region, the two species, included in the edition of the Red Book of Ukraine (2009), has been distinguished, particularly: Nitellopsis obtusa (N.A.Desvaux) J.Groves, and Thorea hispida (Thore) N.A.Desvaux (=Thorea ramosissima Bory).. The rare world’s flora species Lychnothamnus barbatus (Meyen) Leonhardi, and Nitella confervacea (Bréb.) A.Braun ex Leonhardi, following the algosozological evaluation in accordance with the current IUCN criteria, has been proposed for inclusion in the 4th editions of the Red Book of Ukraine and IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Bioindication analysis was conducted in terms of species diversity and a set of indicator species. The investigated reservoirs have been characterized by a moderate level of organic pollution, neutral and slightly alkaline reactions, and have allocated to the β - mesasaprobic zone.
The distribution of the detected algal diversity by the types of reservoirs has been identified as uneven, Thus, the largest number of species have distinguished in lentic reservoirs - 733 species (764 inf. taxa) of algae and the smallest number of 127 species (131 taxa) have distinguished in the group of wetlands. It is worth noting that only 63 species appeared common for all types of reservoirs.
