The general basics and state of scientific development of the problem of investigative secrecy are outlined. The category of «information» as a basis for understanding the term «investigative secrecy» is disclosed, types of information with restricted access are classified. The characterization of criminal activity as a prerequisite for the formation of the concept and content of investigative secrecy is substantiated, the definition of the last definitions is proposed. The causes, sources and channels of data leakage that are considered investigative are characterized. Criminal procedural basics of investigative secrecy have been revealed. The international legal basics of information processes related to investigative secrecy have been identified. Ways to improve the domestic criminal procedural legislation governing investigative secrecy are suggested.
