Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the the lingual expression of narrative perspective (point of view) based upon structural, semantic and functional scientific approaches to the literary autobiography texts of contemporary British fiction, particularly its new genre misery lit. The research is performed taking into consideration the deep processes that characterize contemporary British fictional discourse. The significance of the study of narrative perspective is confirmed by the orientation of modern linguistic studies on the problem of the point of view as the central category of linguo-narratology, literary criticism, text linguistics, discourse analysis. The theretical core of the dissertation concept was the step-by-step analysis of B. Uspensky's work “Poetics of Composition” on the point of view exclusively in the linguistic sense grounded on the semiotic approach. This enabled the study of four planes for the existence of a narrative perspective (point of view) in a literary prose text – “ideological plane”, “phraseological plane”, “spatio-temporal plane” and “psychological plane”.
