Essay

The dissertation paper for candidate’s degree in the speciality 09.00.11 – religious studies. – The National University of Ostroh Academy. – Ostroh, 2020. The dissertation paper is a complex philosophical and theological analysis of the transformation of everyday culture values in the processes of the globalization. The research presents the analysis of the changes which occur in everyday culture under the influence of the processes of the globalization. Their correlation with the transformation of religion and piousness in the dimensional zones of the everyday culture is examined. The paper expresses and develops the assumption that the processes of globalization, the transformation of everyday culture values and the crisis of religion and piousness are the three interconnected tendencies of the modern times, which have common consequences. The description of sources on everyday issues is given and the categories of «everydayness» and «dailiness» are distinguished in the philosophical and religious senses. The author defines «everyday culture» with its outlined semantic boundaries in the context of globalization. A brand new methodological approach to the study of religious and secular tendencies of global era on various levels / zones was developed applying the theory of religious and secular global era dynamics of J. Casanova combined with the dimensional model of everyday culture of V. Leleko (body, home, settlement). The three sections (second, third and fourth) represent a certain dimensional structure of everyday culture. The impact of globalization and manifestations of the privatization of religion in the dimension of everyday culture is analyzed in the context of three separate zones, the first being the body of a person, the second – the home as the locus of the dimension of everyday culture and the third – the settlement (village and city) as the maximum area of everyday dimension. The transformation of everyday values under the influence of globalization, the transformation of values in themselves, and the significance and role of religion and piousness in these processes are analyzed in the context of each zone. The importance of the body as a key sociocultural construct, necessary for the daily activity of a modern person, is analyzed. The basic modes of daily bodily existence through which a person «reveals» not as a biological but as a sociocultural, existential and religious being are considered. The religious and ritual nature of daily bodily practices is examined. The home as the locus of the globalized everydayness is viewed from the religious and axiological perspective. The term «locus» is defined as a bounded by physical boundaries point in space that indicates a strong attachment of a person to the functional field of his or her daily routine. The research investigates the issues, which are scarcely examined in the domestic religious studies, of sacred locus of the home in the profane dimension of the house, religious and secular attributes of a home, collective coexistence of everyday life and desacralization of the locus of the home. The existing approaches to the understanding of the topos «village» of S. Krymsky and the topos «city» of R. Oldenburg are developed. A comparative analysis of the religious and traditional model of the dailiness of these two major topoi of everyday culture is done. The consequences of the modern secularization processes for everyday culture of the city and the village are analyzed, as well as the responding strategies to the actual globalization challenges of each of the topoi. As a result of the study, for the first time within the framework of the domestic philosophical and theological discourse from the standpoint of the non-confessional approach, a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of everyday culture values in the context of globalization was done, taking into account the fact of the privatization of religion and tendencies of secularization. The end results of the research can be useful in the development of effective principles for the regulation of religious relations in Ukraine, considering the complex and contradictory sociocultural circumstances of modern times. The results of the dissertation research can be used in the educational process of higher education institutions in order to modernize religious courses, psychology of religion and cultural studies. Key words: everyday culture, globalization, values, religion, piousness, secularization.
