Essay

The task of improving the available material of high quality, namely, high carbon low-alloy steel 120Mn3Si2, is solved in this work. The structure and properties of the surface layers of retained austenite in steel after severe mechanical wear were investigated. A mean for connecting repair linings of heat-treated steel 120Mn3Si2 with parts from other steels that require protection from severe mechanical wear is also developed. It is shown that for obtaining a high quality welded joint of high carbon low alloy steel, it is necessary to provide rapid cooling of the heat affected zone (HAZ) during welding. This provides the formation of austenite layer, which reduces the likelihood of cracks and significantly improves the quality of welded joints.
