Essay

The study presents the results of the research of the peculiarities of ethnic identity of representatives of different ethno-lingual groups of the Ukrainian students. Ethnic identity, ethnic community, ethno-lingual identity are interpreted in the study from social psychological perspective. A program of empirical research has been developed to demonstrate the peculiarities of ethnic and ethno-lingual identities in different ethno-lingual groups. Five ethno-lingual groups were distinguished that reflect the main strategies of ethno-lingual identification of the Ukrainian student. Peculiarities of ethnic and ethno-lingual identities are described through a comparison of the appearance of their characteristics in different ethno-lingual groups. It was determined that in the studied groups there are features common to all groups of the manifestation of ethnic identity: the severity of ethnic identity and its components is higher than average; the main type of ethnic identity in all ethno-lingual groups is a normal ethnic identity; medium, close to low, level of reflection of ethnic identity. One-way ANOVA analysis revealed significant intergroup differences when comparing the following characteristics of ethnic identity: the severity of ethnic identity, types of ethnic identity: ethnic bigotry, ethnic selfishness, ethnic isolationism, ethnic indifference and reflexivity of ethnic identity. Also statistically significant intergroup differences are observed in all the characteristics of the Ukrainian ethno-lingual identity. In each of the groups, the studied characteristics are manifested differently. Peculiarities of correlations - different in strength, direction or absent for some pairs of variables and available for others, repeated in different ethno-lingual groups - give grounds to state the complexity and ambiguity of interactions and define them as multi-mutlivalued connections between elements of different hierarchy in personality structure. Based on certain features of the ethnic identity of the Ukrainian student youth, recommendations for the implementation of language policy in Ukraine were developed, that provide for improvements in the field of language policy. The basis for supplementing the language policy should be to take into account the ethno-lingual structure of the Ukrainian society, the psychological features of ethnic, linguistic and ethno-lingual identities in each of the ethno-lingual groups.
