Essay

The dissertation deals with developing both theoretical principles and practical recommendations to substantiate the procedures of socio-environmental diagnostics for industrial enterprise activities. The semantics of the “socio-environmental diagnostics of the industrial enterprise” concept is substantiated, being considered as a process with comprehensive step-by-step assessment, monitoring and forecasting of social security and environmental safety parameters achieved during production and economic activities. On using the sound research tools it enables to find out the “bottlenecks” and deviations from the limit levels of the indicators, specify the reasons for their occurrence and make predictive calculations on the possible courses of events, which results should become the ground for making informed management decisions. The components of social and environmental diagnostics of the industrial enterprise activities are identified, including four characteristics of the social vector (staff professional orientation and rejuvenation, continuing professional development of staff, social dialogue, and comprehensive social protection and security for employees) and four characteristics of the environmental vector (launching the innovations to ensure the higher quality of human life, sensible and provident attitude to the environment, information transparency of environment monitoring results, and balanced use of all production factors). Both quantitative and qualitative parameters to diagnize the social security and environmental safety of the industrial enterprise activities were systematized, with analyzing the level of social security and environmental safety of the industrial enterprise activities as well as assessing the normative basis for socio-environmental diagnostics of industrial enterprises activity. The study provides the correlation of components of socio-environmental diagnostics for industrial enterprise activities with the principles of the UN Global Compact and the provisions of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) Guidelines. The sufficiency of public information about the industrial enterprise activities by socio-environmental components is assessed. The research provides the developed procedure for conducting the analytical stage of socio-environmental diagnostics for the industrial enterprise activities, based on the specification of the algorithm for getting the required information and statistic data; making the quantitative and qualitative assessment, based on the established criteria and graphical interpretation as to dynamics of evaluation indicators over time; processing and synthesis of the results obtained for each component of the socio-environmental diagnostics on a scale – “high”, “satisfactory”, and “unsatisfactory” level; identifying the problems and reasons resulted to this condition. The conceptual bases for making the nonfinancial report on the results of socio-environmental diagnostics of the industrial enterprise activities have been clarified with the technique of prudent decision-making by the enterprise management on the expediency to publish the consolidated socio-environmental information in the form of a non-financial report; specifying the requirements to its content, form and type of submission, as well as the stages of its development; setting the criteria for selecting the team of experts to implement the strategy of socially responsible behavior. The forecast levels of the resulting indicators have been calculated when changing the indicators of the social vector in the enterprise activity. Key words: industrial enterprise, diagnostics, social aspects, environmental aspects, socially responsible behavior.
