Essay

The aim of the work is to identify and study new resonant properties and bistable interaction of electromagnetic waves with nonlinear planar single and periodic structures of complex shape at the infrared range. The object of study is the processes of interaction of the electromagnetic field with complex structures that contain nonlinear elements. Research methods: the complex amplitude technique, the mode matching technique, the transfer-matrix method and the integral equations method. Theoretical results: bistable and multistable operating regimes of metal arrays and grating with a complex structure of an elementary cell with elements of Kerr-type nonlinearity are shown. Novelty: the types of nonlinear structures with bistable and multistable behavior of the transmission coefficients at trapped and defect modes are obtained. Degree of implementation: the results of the work can be used in the preparation and provide of educational lectures in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, which studies the scientific area of diffraction of electromagnetic waves by periodic structures. Scope: the constructed algorithms for solving the researched dissertation problems can be used in engineering to create ultra-fast compact optical switches.
