Ukrayinska Y. The Comicality of Magic in English Fantasy Genre from a Linguistic Poetological Perspective: А Study of T. Pratchett’s Novels

This thesis addresses the genre features of English humorous fantasy novels through the prism of interaction between the categories of comicality and magic, viewed from a linguistic poetological perspective. The research of comic manifestations of magic proceeds from the differentiation between two types of poetics that differ in their scope: micropoetics, which focuses on particular elements of literary texture, including imagery, as well as their combinations creating stylistic effects; and macropoetics, which operates with literary texts genre and compositional features, plot-building and compositional techniques, as well as means and ways of shaping the author’s idiosyncratic worldview.
