Tovkailo Y. Practices of using the pipe in the pastoral traditions of Ukraine (instruments, music, performance).

The dissertation is devoted to the research of traditional pipe practices of pastoral regions of Ukraine in their historiographical, economic, ethno-organological, structural- typological, and ethnophonic (folk - performing) aspects. The historiography of the state of study and preservation of the tradition of the whole period from the beginning of the XIX century to the present day is covered. Based on archival data, modern expedition records of leading ethnoorganologists of Ukraine, and the author's expeditionary achievements, the main verified array of transcriptions of pastoral pipe music of the Ukrainian Carpathians, Volhynia, and Polissya are presented in fragments. The material of Central Ukraine and the Sloboda region is considered rudimentary. The scientific novelty of the dissertation research is the consideration of pipe instruments of the whole territory of Ukraine in the context of pastoralism, namely pastoralism as a cultural phenomenon with its unique system of values, customs, beliefs, musical attributes, characteristic music, and more.
