This paper deals with semantic-structural and functional properties of participles and participial constructions in Modern German. The categorial classification of German participles is complicated by their potential verbal and adjectival features. The study distinguishes and describes six basic morphosyntactic patterns of sentences with participles in Modern German, depending on their grammatical features and syntactic roles: the role of predicate (parts of analytical verb forms and predicates), the role of predicatives, the role of external and internal arguments, the role of adjuncts, and that of attributes.
