Varlakova A. Prosodic Features of Unstressed Vocalism in the English Speech of the Native Ukrainian Speakers.

The thesis focuses on the study of the prosodic features of the unstressed vocalism in the interfered English speech of Ukrainian speakers with different levels of the phonetic competence. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research are the scientific works in the fields of phonology, prosody, acoustic speech theory, experimental phonetics, taking into account the problem of interaction of the phonetic systems of the languages under the study. The paper clarifies the theoretical basis of the historical development of the unstressed English vocalism study and its distinctive functioning features in the English speechof Ukrainians, combinatory and positional changes, which influence the allophonic variation of the unstressed vowels, identifies their modifications in different positions in a word and the stress in the Ukrainians’ English speech.
