Essay

Electrochemical cosurface sensors (one-pair and four-pair) were designed to evaluate changes in the corrosivity of atmospheric air environment with respect to metal structures during monitoring the effectiveness of atmospheric corrosion protection. The lower limit of corrosion rate measurement using the sensor is 10–5 mm/year (2∙10–10 A/cm2). The sensor is adapted for determination of the corrosion rate in the humidity conditions and at the presence of a temperature gradient between the metal structure and the atmospheric air during a daily cycle. This allowed expanding the area of applying the polarization resistance method under the conditions of atmospheric corrosion protection. The sensor was verified at the SE “Ukrmetrteststandart” and the performance test protocol was received.
