Essay

The rapid development of the viola creative work of Ukrainian composers in the last third of the 20th – early 21st centuries is determined by the entry of the instrument to the forefront of the concert life which actualized the study of the issues related to the repertoire formation in the most indicative, large-scale genres. The purpose of the research is to identify trends in the development of creativity for viola by Ukrainian composers of the given period of time on the basis of large-scale opuses. The following objectives have been accomplished: to determine the preconditions for the rise of the viola creative work in Ukraine; to detect genre and stylistic dynamics of the development of large-scale literature for viola; to systematize these works in terms of conceptualization of the musical content; to highlight the specific features of the form construction, musical semantics of the opuses, peculiarities of their interpretation; to introduce little-studied works into the area of science; to substantiate the significance of compositions by Ukrainian composers in for the assertion of the viola as a solo instrument, to define their role and place in the context of musical art.
