Essay

The thesis is devoted to the research of Canadian Ukrainian-language magazines of the publishing house «Nasha Kultura» (Our Culture): «Slovo istiny» (Word of Truth), «Nasha Kultura» (Our Culture), «Vira i Kultura» (Faith and Сulture), which were published from 1947 to 1967 in Winnipeg. A complete set of magazines, as an information resource on the history of cultural and spiritual life of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, is analyzed. The analysis of historiography demonstrated that despite the interest of domestic scholars in the history of Canadian periodicals, and despite the interest of some researchers in studying the Canadian Ukrainian-language magazines of the Publishing House «Nasha Kultura», the sources and informational capacity of the magazines «Slovo Istyny», «Nasha Kultura», «Vira i Kultura» did not become the subject of an independent research. The thesis explicates the precondition for creating and history of founding of the magazine «Slovo Istyny». It is established that the magazine published articles favoring and asserting the ideas of Orthodoxy, Christian principles and universal spiritual values. Despite the religious orientation of the magazine, attention was paid to the problems of history and culture, and the preservation of the Ukrainian language.
