Essay

This dissertation covers issues related to the solo bassoon performance which is represented as an integral system from the viewpoint of history, organology, interpretology, genre and style. The main tendencies in bassoon performance of the late 20th - early 21st century have been determined. It is noted that the appearance of pieces for solo bassoon has become a new stage in the ontogenetic process of the development of bassoon performance. The work of international associations and societies of bassoonists (competitions, conferences, research activities, master classes) has been covered. There is an intensive growth of communication opportunities in the area of bassoon performance, which is determined by modern globalization processes. Determined by the above mentioned connections and available results, the potential of bassoon societies and associations requires comprehensive analysis and scientific understanding in further research on the history and theory of modern performance on wooden wind instruments, in particular, on bassoon, in terms of socio-culture, history, interpretation, and methodology. It should be noted that the "second breath" in the life of the bassoon, which is evident for practicing musicians and a wide range of listeners, has not been well covered in the musicological literature of both historical-theoretical and critical-journalistic genres, and this refers not only to the national but also to the foreign music science. Thus, we see great prospects in a comprehensive musicological study of various issues related to the solo "career" of the bassoon in the second half of the 20th - early 21st centuries.
