The purpose of the study is to find out the influence of the controversial views of historians of the Crakow Historical School on the formation of Polish historical science in the second half of the XIX century and to consolidate the further historiographic traditions. The object of the study is the discussion around the works of Michał Bobrzyński in 1879 in the circle of professional historians, in particular, the representatives of the Crakow Historical School. The subject of the study is the scientific and political discourse used by M. Bobrzyński, W. Kalinka, J. Szujski, S. Smolka and K. Liske, in the concepts of “positivism”, “pessimism”, “organic work”, “strong power” and “civilization”. Results of the research: The analysis of separate structures of political and historical writing discourses allowed us to confirm the similarity of the Cracow historians political views. However, their views on is orical wri in reveal si nifican differences. M. Bobrzyńs i ook the position of sociologically oriented positivism, which has not been supported in Polish historiography. W. Kalinka adhered to the Enlightenment idea of history as a construction and romanticism, which insisted on its national framework. The Lviv historian K. Liske insisted on a critical analysis of the sources. J. Szujski emphasized the value of fact in accordance with the principles of positivism, and believed that the critical method verifies the scientific nature of history. S. Smolka substantiated the theory of history and its scientific methodology from a model of individual historism developed by J. G. Droysen. Scope of use : development of teaching materials and courses in Polish historiography of the XIX century, historiography of the Eastern European region of the XIX century, history science and methodology of history.
