Matienko-Silnytska A. Prosody of Persuasion in Oral English-speaking Judicial and Preaching Discourses (Instrumental Phonetic Research)

The research focuses on the comprehensive study of the prosody of persuasion in judicial and preaching discourses. Persuasion is seen as one of the means of speech influence, in the structure of which there exist rational and emotional components. One way to increase the emotional impact of persuasion is prosody. As a result of the analysis of the speech material under study, it is proposed to systematize it according to the following extralingual factors that determine the implementation of persuasion in preaching and judicial discourses: the use of tactics that serve the implementation of persuasion strategy; localization of a persuasive statement in the compositional part of the sermon / court speech; the degree of emotional impact of persuasion. The comparative analysis of prosodic (melodic, temporal and dynamic) features of persuasion realization in English-language judicial and preaching discourses allowed to establish a set of integral and differential prosodic features of researched persuasive statements and to create intonation portraits of basic tactics in realizing persuasive strategy.
