Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the choral work of one of the brightest representatives of Ukrainian music of the second half of the twentieth century, the 18 outstanding Kharkiv composer Valentyn Savych Bibik (1940–2003). Choral works, covering almost the entire mature period, are fundamental to the formation of the individual style of the composer. The urgency of the study of V. Bibik's choral heritage is due to the public demand for its return to the concert stage. The dissertation analyzes all the choral works of V. Bibik, which fully represent the genre system of the artist's choral work and demonstrate his stylistic evolution. The study of V. Bibik's choral work allowed to deepen and expand the idea of the author's style of the composer, to reveal the main tendencies of genre-style evolution of this sphere, to emphasize its role in the development of Ukrainian choral art in the second half of the XX century. In the dissertation for the first time the whole corpus of choral works of the Ukrainian composer is systematically studied; the periodization of the artist's choral work is proposed, which reproduces the stages of V. Bibik's creative formation in the choral genre; the specifics of individual use of established choral genres by the composer are characterized; the role of choral miniature as one of the leading genre forms of the composer is determined; features of work with verbal texts that determine the genre specificity, composition and drama of works are considered; features of V. Bibik's choral writing, which is characterized by symphonic and polyphonic thinking, which determine the stylistic individuality of the composer in general, are revealed.
