English vocabulary of the Customs sphere. The analysis has shown that the English terminological system of the Customs domain is an important lexical layer of the English word-stock. It includes terminological units from various humanitarian terminology systems, such as economic, business and financial spheres, jurisprudence, especially international law as well as from technical terminology systems, in particular, various modes of transport. The research findings point to the integrative genetic nature of Customs terminological system in the English language. In the course of the study, it has been determined that special vocabulary of the Customs sphere is mainly formed by using the semantic means of word-forming. The analysis of the English Customs terms showed that affixation and composition as a morphological ways of word-formation is also widely applied. According to the results of the analysis, the English professional language of Customs domain includes both one-word terms and poly-word terms. In the thesis, the mechanism of bilateral expansion of key terminological units has been revealed and substantiated. The terminological composite consisting of bi-term and poly-term is formed by attaching both terminological and non-terminological units to the key term. Bilateral expansion can be either prepositional or postpositional, sometimes they both are used. The mechanism of bilateral expansion is used to form such terminological composites to reflect integrated concepts. The research has demonstrated that a significant part of key terms has a “bifunctional” nature implying the fact that outside the Customs sphere such words act as lexical units from general vocabulary and in special sphere they function in the form of special units, i.e. terms. The thesis also deals with diverse ways of verbalizing the main concepts of the Customs sphere: “duty”, “goods”, “declaration/convention”. The analysis proved the English-language nomination of these main concepts to be versatile. In view of this fact, much attention has been paid to diverse lexical and grammar means of nominating different kind of Customs duties, goods and declaration/conventions in English. Being meaningful concepts among others related to the Customs domain, the abovementioned main concepts have a whole range of synonymous terms. Regarding various semantic connotation, the choice of synonym depends upon the underlined aspect to convey the meaning. For that matter, the research findings have confirmed the fact that verbalization of concepts related to different types of duties, goods and declarations/conventions in the Customs sphere is carried out by using terminological word combinations of different semantic content.
