Essay

The dissertation analyzes Iranian women's prose as a holistic phenomenon in the literary history. Furthermore, it develops scientific basis for the exploration of gender issues in the work of an Iranian writer, Simin Daneshwar, in the context of Iranian women's prose of the XX – early XXI century. The dissertation examines the factors and stages of origin and development of women's prose as a new trend in the modern Iranian literature, too. Additionally, the paper determines the problems, ideological orientation, and stylistics of Iranian women's prose and the role it plays in cultural process as a whole. Finally, the dissertation determines the typology of female images in Iranian literature. By the middle of the twentieth century. women's literature as a holistic phenomenon with its own features and patterns in Iran did not exist. Iranian prose of the twentieth century (novel and short story) – a new genre that appeared in the early twentieth century influenced by Western culture due to the Iranian Enlightenment movement, but unlike women's prose in Europe and the United States, Persian women's prose from the beginning to the end of the twentieth century pays little attention to feminist tendencies, especially in the form of radical feminism. Women's literature as a holistic phenomenon, or rather – women's prose, the founder of which can be considered S. Daneshwar – began to develop in Iran only in the 40's of the twentieth century and was marked by its departure from realism towards historical and mythological prose.
