The thesis is devoted to developing theoretical principles, improving methodological approaches, and practical recommendations for forming organizational and economic support of Ukrainian cities' economic security in terms of sustainable development. Also conducted a study of cities' global function as drivers of social and economic development of the world economy, countries, regions, requiring the construction of a new city model, goals and priorities of economic, social, cultural, environmental, spatial development. The author identified a city as an object of economic security from the viewpoint of rapid integration into international economic processes and global added value chains, thus clarifying their status, role, and importance of cities in the hierarchy of objects in economic security. As well, generalized the world experience in research of cities' Economic security.
The thesis introduces a set of methodological approaches to assessing and monitoring the cities' economic security. Also proposed a scientific and methodological approach to reveal contradictions between the state of economic security of cities, the existing potential of spatial development, and the level of implementation of security-oriented goals of sustainable development. The approach is based on functional and indicator analysis to assess the region's economic security, integral assessment of interdependent indicators of spatial development, and the relationship of components of cities' economic security. That allows to assess local governments' effectiveness, determine priorities and measures to identify problems, counteract the emergence of real threats, and their neutralization in order to ensure the national economy's economic security. The author proved that the state of the cities' economic security and their functional stability and sustainability determine the formation and effectiveness of the existing organizational and economic mechanisms. Which at the same time should ensure economic and social effectiveness of strategic priorities realization of sustainable development of the cities.
The author developed a conceptual approach to urban development management and implementing a security-oriented model of sustainable development. It also proved the expediency of comprehensive implementation of the project approach's methodology in managing the city's sustainable development. Also substantiated the principles of cooperation with private businesses and the intensification of public-private partnership development at the city level in implementing modern city development models.
The author proposes directions for improving the mechanism of organizational and economic support of Ukrainian cities' economic security in sustainable development terms. Also proved the development stimulating necessity for small and medium-sized entrepreneurship, development of regional strategies focused on cities' development, regional programs of economic and social development, as well as coordination of city executive committees on these issues, taking into account the presented results of the dissertation.
