Zinchenko T. Socio-psychological factors in the formation of gender stereotypes of appearance

In the dissertation the theoretical substantiation and empirical study of social and psychological factors of gender stereotypes of appearance are carried out. The model of the theoretical model of socio-psychological factors of gender stereotypes of appearance includes the social (macro), interpersonal (meso) and individual (micro) level. On the basis of empirical research the content and structure of gender stereotypes of appearance, stereotypical attitude to beauty and attractiveness and own appearance, cases of discrimination on appearance are revealed. Statistically significant differences in stereotypes regarding physical signs of attractiveness according to age, sex, education and marital status of individuals were identified. There are statistically significant relationships between the content of stereotypes of appearance and individual psychological, gender and socio-demographic characteristics of stereotypes. The author's gender-oriented training program for prevention and overcoming of gender stereotypes, sexism and discrimination on the grounds of appearance has been developed and tested and its effectiveness has been proved.
