Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the royalist political thought of England in the middle of the XVII century, namely - to the discovery and study of such a new direction for domestic English studies as constitutional royalism. The dissertation for the first time in domestic historiography explores such narrative sources as the political treatises of John Bremhol, Henry Fern, John Spelman and Philip Hunton. This allowed us to make a comparative description of the views of constitutional royalists and parliamentarians on the main problems of the state system of England. It was found that the representatives of the idea of constitutional royalism expressed a number of similar ideas about the system of government, the rights and responsibilities of both the king and his subjects, but they failed to create a political union, a separate party. The main ideas that make it possible to determine the affiliation of individual thinkers to the group of constitutional royalists are specified. The reasons and preconditions of formation of this direction of political thought are investigated.
