Essay

For the first time in the national theology, and the Ukrainian context of narrative conflict, a comprehensive analysis of the peacebuilding potential of Narrative Theology has been done against the background of proposals and strategies to achieve national reconciliation in secular and religious discourses. It is revealed that the division of modern Ukrainian society and its conflict-generating have deep historical roots and lie in the narrative plane. It is established that the basis of narrative confrontation and division of Ukrainian society are narratives of the "sealed" / closed type. In Ukrainian society there is a demand for rethinking and forming the opposite type of narrative - "open" and an approach that would contribute to the "stitching" of the country: dialogue between the parties, trust in each other, forgiveness, search for truth and justice, beyond conflict memory, habitual perception of reality, another, habitual epistemology, in general. Existing proposals from secular and religious discourses for reconciliation have been shown to be partially effective in the practical dimension of achieving reconciliation at the community level, but this is clearly not enough. Reconciliation, in the context of "sealed" narratives: negative perceptions of the other, negative emotions, fear, mistrust, unforgiveness, thirst for revenge, cannot be achieved only through legal, political or dogmatic, prescriptive mechanisms or rational principles or human design. It is necessary to create narrative reconciliation, which is more spiritual than technologically rational. Narrative Theology was presented as having powerful peacemaking potential because of rethink narratives from a constructive perspective, Narrative Theology offers a narrative approach as a highly effective tool for addressing theological and ethical issues, and it provides a vision of biblical narratives as the basis for a moral transformation of a social reality. Taking into account the nature of the «open» narrative, the narrative approach to build a narrative of reconciliation, the issues and values identified by the analysis of biblical narratives of reconciliation that should be implemented in the process of creating a new meaning in the country, and the key biblical principles of the Evangelical Church social action, it is determined possible actions for the Church at the national level that would contribute to a positive change in society and the formation of a new peace narrative. There could be the following actions: embodying a prophetic, critical role, prayers for peace and reconciliation, priestly act, participating in reconciliation commissions/working groups
