Essay

The dissertation thoroughly examines the contradictions of the process of national self-determination of the Ukrainian minority during the period of sovereignty of Slovakia (1989-1995), in particular - the process of creation, socio-cultural, educational activities of the SRU, which protected the interests of Ukrainians in general. It is established that during the first half of the 1990s the cultural, scientific and literary life of Ukrainians in Slovakia revived. The internal and external factors of independence and intensification of the activity of the "Ruthenian rite" in Slovakia, its specifics and peculiarities of creation, as well as the work of the "World Congress of Ruthenians" are traced. There was a lack of a single codified literary language among the Ruthenians. The paper separately analyzes the Ukrainian-Slovak cooperation in the field of protection of the rights of national minorities of the Slovak Republic.
