Object of research: state regulation of sustainable development of the region. The research objective: substantiation of theoretical bases and development of practical recommendations as to improvement of mechanisms of formation of sustainable development of the region. Methods: system approach, hypothetical-deductive method of the methodology of the thesis research formation, deductive proof of the proposed research hypothesis, structural-functional analysis, a number of comparative methods, statistical method, prognostic method, theoretical-conceptual method. Results: the scientific task of the theoretical foundations development and scientific and applied recommendations substantiation for improving the mechanisms of state regulation of sustainable development of the region has been solved. Novelty: methodological and practical approaches to the formation of a mechanism for the region’s sustainable development based on the creation of appropriate economic and institutional conditions, through the introduction of specific tools for regional sustainability have been formulated; it has been proposed: the development of environmental entrepreneurship based on regional system of reproduction of environmental demand and supply; environmental audit, certification and environmental insurance, the development of public participation in decision-making, increasing the role of environmental education and training, the development of environmental regulation regarding the regional specifics; improved: the method of assessing the full economic efficiency of environmental measures on the basis of the effect that consistently manifests itself and results from the interdependence and interaction of social, environmental and economic effects; based on a system of indicators of sustainable development scientific and practical recommendations for long-term economic planning in the region specifics is introduced; conceptual model of the regional organizational mechanism of state regulation of ecologically sustainable development of the territory, which includes the principles, elements and strategic directions of its formation on the basis of rational implementation of investments using the natural resource base of the region; further developed: theoretical approaches to the concept and essence of socio-environmental conflicts disclosure; their classification, which highlights the main causes and trends of the region, identifies the functions of the institutional environment in resolving environmental conflicts, formulates and substantiates the main areas of regional conflict management; imperatives of sustainable development for an investment-attractive region as a system of integrated indicators of underestimation of the environmental factor in regional investment activities, which can lead to investment activity beyond public utility and reduce the region’s investment attractiveness. Implemented in the activities of: Melitopol State District Administration of Zaporizhia region, Executive Committee of Melitopol District Council of Zaporizhia region.
