Based on the outlined, the essence of the e-commerce system is also revealed, its structure, component composition are determined, functions, principles of functioning and development are singled out and described. The content of this system is proposed to be considered as follows: e-commerce system – a set of relations between economic entities arising in the process of selling, buying goods and services via the Internet, other business transactions for the development of such relations, which interacts with the environment, realizes its own, unique functions, has a single purpose of existence - to meet the demand for goods and services and make a profit. The directions of influence of the e-commerce system on the development of the national economy were also systematized, which were divided into the following groups: macrosystems; microsystem and infrastructure. The dissertation also defines a set of principles for the development of the e-commerce system, the list of which was expanded by the principle of infrastructural conditionality. Significant attention is paid to a comprehensive study of the current state of trade in Ukraine and the role of e-commerce in the development of this area, analyzed current trends in such a system and identified a set of major barriers to its further strategic development, including: an effective system of income taxation of business entities operating exclusively on the Internet; macroeconomic instability in the country, especially in the foreign exchange market; low level of digital literacy of the population, which creates a known barrier in attracting new consumers to this system, etc. The dissertation deepens the theoretical and methodological provisions of the functioning of the mechanism of strategic development of the e-commerce system. This is done by specifying the purpose of such a mechanism, a description of its functions and basic methods and tools. The main groups of resource provision and the basic principles of this mechanism are also identified. It is established that for the strategic development of the e-commerce system it is important to supplement the group of such principles as follows: de-shadowing and systemic incentives. It is the consideration of these principles that will improve the quality of the institutional environment in which the processes of buying and selling goods and services are carried out with the help of modern information technologies.
