In the dissertation on the basis of theoretical generalization and analysis of empirical basis the general theoretical and methodical provisions connected with technical and forensic research of the passport of the citizen of Ukraine containing the contactless electronic carrier with biometric data of the owner of the document are developed, and also the corresponding expert technique for increase of a level of practical orientation of its possibilities is improved. The author's definition of a biometric passport as the main official document issued by an authorized state body certifying the identity of a citizen of Ukraine or his special status and containing a contactless electronic medium with biometric data of the document holder is proposed. Its place in the system of identity documents is determined in the following aspects: 1) political significance; 2) legal significance; 3) organizational significance. The essence and significance of the forensic examination of the given type of identity documents are established. The legal regulation of the specified category of criminological researches is analyzed that has allowed to allocate the significant bases of their ordering: 1) hierarchical subordination or legal force; 2) the subject of legal regulation. The interdependence of legal and organizational bases of the specified activity is revealed that has allowed to allocate organizational bases of criminalistic research of the biometric passport of the citizen of Ukraine.
