Essay

The object of study: wetted samples of NA. The aim of study: to find out influence of hydration on energetics and dynamic properties of a DNA-water system and stability of this system under conditions of exposure to radiation. Methods and equipment: differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, gel-electrophoresis, densitometry, theoretical studies. Theoretical and practical results, novelty: linear relationship between dehydration energy of NA and AT/GC-composition has been found. Values of binding energies, dielectric relaxation time, parameter of "free volume", diffusion coefficients of water in the NA hydration surroundings at various levels of the water content have been obtained. Values of fractal dimension of A- and B-DNA surfaces have been calculated. Dual (stabilizing and destabilizing) role of the water surroundings in a DNA irradiation process depending on the water content has been determined. The sphere of application: molecular biophysics, radiobiology.
