Essay

The thesis presents a research of the dramatic works of T.S.Elіot in connection with the ancient Greek mythology and the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides based on the plots and characters of ancient myths. There are examined the counterparts of the verse plays of T.S.Elіot and the works of ancient playwrights concerning their subject, structure and characters. It is also outlined that the problems and the message of T.S.Elіot's plays are determined by the author's Christian beliefs. There is analysed the author's original conception of modern verse drama, which found its almost complete expression in his late dramatic works, where T.S.Elіot gradually digressed from the canons of ancient dramatic art.
