Essay

The object of the research is the typology and national peculiarities of lyric poetry by the Ukrainian and American poets, with its literary motives and imagery. The aim of the research is, on analyzing the lyric verses, letters, and theoretical background, tracing the way similar or different phenomena in Ukrainian or American aesthetics, poetics, and culture are reflected in the poets' works, together with the way purely individual peculiarities of theirinner worlds influence those. The methods employed in the research are comparative-typological, philosophic-aesthetic, biographic, and stylistic-versificational ones. As a result, the author states that Lesya Ukrainka's and Emily Dickinson's poetic minds possess numerous similarities, and thus differences; consequently, it is possible to declare aesthetic and stylistic closeness of their poetic visions. The innovativeness of the research is proved with its being the first attempt at comprehensive comparative-typological analysis of lyric poetry by Les ya Ukrainka and Emily Dickinson. The relents and the data obtained can be used at lecture and practical courses in Ukrainian literature, American literature history, comparative typology, various special courses, as well as further investigations of Lesya Ukrainka's and Emily Dickinson's literary activity.
