Essay

Light collection in transparent scintillators of various shapes is studied in the dissertation. The surface of the detector under consideration can be smooth or rough. Method Monte-Carlo is the main method of the research. The scintillator is imagined as a set of arbitrary joined planes, conical and spherical sites. Diffusion of a light beam by rough surface is considered on a base of a new treatment. A scintillator surface is imagined as a smooth plane some part of which is covered with cylindrical scratches of arbitrary direction and depth. Light collection fields in the detectors of various shapes are calculated. The shapes under consideration are parallelepipeds, tapers, truncated 4- and 6-edged pyramids. Sources of the changes that take place by introduction of roughness on some surface sections of a scintillator are revealed.
