Essay

Patients with heavy eye trauma and their outcomes. The goal is to increase the efficiency of ultrasonic diagnostics for evaluation of intraocular posttraumatic changes by developing new research method based on the measurement of ultrasound velocity (USV) in vitreous body. Methods are ophthalmological (ultrasound investigations included), biochemical. For the first time it is established, that unfavorable clinical outcomes are marked at patients with posttraumatic endophthalmitis and hemophthalmos when USV in vitreous body increase more than 1550 m/s. In cases of posttraumatic phthisis oculi the significant USV rise (on the average 22,3 m/s) is revealed. The USV in vitreous body 1549,2 m/s and above allows to differentiate posttraumatic phthisis oculi from other posttraumatic changes (posttraumatic hypotony, vitreous opacity, uveitis, retinal detachment). The method has been applied in diagnostic practice of Filatov's Institute. The range of application is medicine, ophthalmology.
