Essay

The polymolecular layers of nonmesogenic liquids on the subsrate. To investigate experimentally their structure, to determine the nature of orientational ordering there. Optical methods: the dichroism of admixtured and intrinsic absorption bands, birefringence, spectral equipment. The new type of mesophase - the epitropic liquid crystalline (ELC) one -was discovered. The properties of ELC layers and the conditions of their formation were studied, the ELC models were proposed. The area of use - physics of surface phenomena.
