There have been analysed the causes of rotor retaining rings failures on powerful turbogenerators and created scientific-technological bases of increasing of characteristics of this the high stressed details in the modern energetic. On the bases of the laboratory testing an and the manufactured improvement the new protective coatings on non corrosion resistant retaining rings and the dielectric coatings on rotor wedges have been introduced. The influence of alloy composition, anisotropy, environments, temperature and static or cyclic stress intensity on characteristics of new developed retaining ring steels has been discovered. There have been proposed the complex of prophylactic actions for the prevention of crack initiation during service.
