Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of emotivity as a language category and the mechanisms of emotive meaning creation in the evolution of German phraseology. The analysis of ontological and gnoseological basis of emotivity, interaction of emotions with other mental phenomena, those of thinking and memory in particular, as well as the study of their language embodiment proved that emotivity pertains to every language level. Each of them has its own system of means for expressing emotions while lexicon and phraseology can also name and describe them. Phraseological units are specifically created to express emotions, emotivity being their categorial property. It emerges as a result of imposing new kinds of relations by the main meaning of phraseological constituents, which, in its turn, leads to reinterpreting a respective word and/ or syntactic construction. Emotivity may also emerge without reinterpretation, through emotive situation descriptions or due to archaic words, necrotisms, neologisms an d borrowings being part of the phrase-forming component.
