Essay

The thesis is the first in historiography complex research of Kyivan St.Sophia Cathedral in context of historical-cultural relationships between Rus-Ukraine and Byzantium. In the work the main events of Russian-Byzantine relationships of the end of the X th century - first half of XI th century and the main ideas of ethno-confessional identification of Kyivan State in East-Christian world are presented through architecture and paintings of St.Sophia Cathedral. The research analyses role of Byzantine spiritual heritage in ethnical and state development of Rus-Ukraine and in shaping of dominant concepts of Ukrainian national mentality and culture.
