Essay

The thesis is devoted to the complex research of the institution of Governorship-general in Ukraine in the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries. It has been assessed sources of the governor-general's power, what had been introduced at the borders of the historical regions - Left-Bank, Sloboda, Right-Bank and South Ukraine in order to complete their incorporation into the Russian empire. It has been demonstrated that the governor-general's administration was a supergovernorship-general higher regional institution in subordinated territories of several governorships-general. By means of comparative analysis of governor-general's control functions it has been ascertained that the institution turn activity to assimilation of elite and integrations of regions. It has been considered the structure of the Governor-general's office that documented social processes, system of office work complex, that is being kept at State Archives and functions as source of retrospective information with a high degreeof representation and authenticity.
