Essay

Subject of the research - metastable state of the silicon carbide characterized by a partial substitution of the silicon atoms by carbon atoms in the beta-SiC structure. The objective: creation of scientific fundamentals of the silicon carbide metastable states due to superstoichiometric carbon atoms presence in its structure and new superhard ceramics possessing high hardness and fracture toughness values and also the composite materials based on special synthesized nanocrytalline composite powders in Si-C system. Theoretical results and novelty - the method of nanocrystalline powders as a solid solution of carbon in SiC synthesis have been developed owing to combine of SHS and precipitation from gas phase. Practical results and novelty - scientific and technological fundamentals new superhard ceramics creation owing to disperse strengthening effect realization. Degree of application - the possibility of practical utilization of the new superhard materials developed by way of abrasion-resistance coatings made by detonation spraying.
