Levchenko O. Methods and means of localizing and neutralizing welding aerosols

The thesis is devoted to the creation of methods and means of effective protection of welders, environment from harmful effect of aerosols which are formed during electric arc welding. Conception about processes of formation of welding aerosols (WA) on the basis of study of dependences of levels and chemical composition of WA on the composition of welding materials, shielding gases and welding conditions was developed and the technological recommendations for reduction of their evolution were issued. The classification of WA and methods of welding in which they are formed was suggested, that made it possible to define methods of neutralizing harmful elements for each method of welding. New filtering materials for air purification from WA were created. Computer information retrieval system was developed which gives information about the chemical composition and level of WA evolutions, efficiency of ventilation, makes comparative hygienic evaluation of welding materials, analyses effect of parameters ofthe welding process on WA evolution, and issues also recommendations for the selection of means of protection of welders and environment depending on the grade of material being welded. A system of means of local ventilation and individual protection of respiratory organs of the new generation for different methods and conditions of welding has been developed.
