The thesis deals with a problem of obtaining diamond polycrystalline compos-ite materials that combine high hardness, strength, wear resistance and heat resis-tance. The results of investigations have scientifically justified the concept of the development of diamond-based composites by the activated sintering of diamond powders and the formation of finely dispersed structural units of the produced polycrystals. The basic principles of the concept have been implemented in the reaction sintering of diamond with silicon. The AKTM thermostable diamond-based composite material has been developed and put into production
