Essay

The dissertation deals with the research of historiography of Ukrainian state-building in the times of Ukraine's struggle for independence (1917-1921). On the basis of broad historiographic background and a large number of facts, dominant tendencies and main stages in the development of knowledge on the history of national state-building processes during the revolution times have been investigated. There also have been revealed, systematized and characterized main groups of historiographic sources on the history of Ukraine's struggle for independence (1917-1921) published during 1918-2003 years. Both Ukrainian and foreign scholars' basic publications on the given subject have been involved in the historiographic analysis. The main attention is paid to the historiographic analysis of the contemporary Ukrainian researchers' works published after the proclamation of Ukraine's state sovereignty and independence. There has been analysed historians' contribution to the study of state-building, political, social and economic, war, cultural and educational and religious processes in Ukraine during the period of Ukraine's struggle for independence (1917-1921). There has been outlined a range of problems requiring further studies, comprehension and scientific interpretation.
