The work is devoted to the studies of the nature end properties of wheat streak mosaic virus and its interactions with a host plant in natural and transformed (simulated microgravity) environments. A long-term monitoring of viral infection in wheat fields in 12 regions of Ukraine has been carried out . Six essential viruses infecting wheat and others grain crops have been detected: Wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV), "Russian wheat mosaic" (RWMV, Triticum mosaic virus Zachurilo et Sitnikova), Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV), Brome streak mosaic virus (BrSMV), Bromegrass mosaic virus (BMV), and Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV).The methods of the agroecological monitoring, indicator analysis, light and electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, enzyme-linked immunoassay, disc-electrophoresis, RT-PCR, atomic-absortion spectroscopy, fluorescence induction and complete laser Mueller-polarimetry were employed for the comprehensive investigations of the WSMV properties and its interactions with the hostplant inthe natural and transformed environment.Poltawa isolate of wheat streak mosaic virus has been identified. It has been shown that by morphological, biological, physico-chemical and molecular-genetic properties, the Poltawa isolate of the virus belongs to the genus Tritimoviruses of the Potyviridae family and has a relation with the second sub-group of North-American WSMV isolates. New experimental data were obtained on the significant effects of clinostating on morphogenesis, growth and development of plants and the processes of viral infection development, particularly the recovery of plants from the virus under the conditions of prolonged clinorotation. This opens up a new field in virological studies - space phytovirology, as well as a novel biotechnology for the virus-free plant material production.
