Essay

During 15 years (1986-2002) the health status of 207 patients, including 88 acute radiation sickness (ARS) convalescents that were exposed to irradiation in the result of Chernobyl catastrophe in dose range from 0.1 to 7.1 Gy was studied in dynamics. The detail characteristics of long term consequences of radiation impact was done and the role of ionizing radiation and different risk factors was determined in forming pathological states of haemopoietic, cardiovascular and digestive systems as well as organ of vision and skin. It was described mathematically the types of reactions of myeloid and megakaryocytic bone marrow lineages on relatively uniform total body irradiation. New diagnostic criteria for acute radiation sickness were elaborated. On the base of discriminant analysis it was determined the risk groups for oncohematological and somatic diseases. The original computer database was worked out and populated with persons, who took part in elimination of the Chernobyl accident consequences in andwhom acute radiation sickness was diagnosed in 1986.
