The Dissertation probes into theoretical aspects of the Novel, its genesis and evolution in Ukrainian Literature. Main modern and former approaches to studying this genre are outlined, and an attemp is made to shape up its theoretic model, relying on international achievements in the area. Major phases of the Ukrainian Novel's evolution are traced out - from its beginnings up to its Postmodern discourse, as well as its reception in literary studies and criticism (P. Kulish, M. Kostomarov, M. Maximovich, Panas Mirniy, Ivan Bilick, M. Dragomanov) and monographs (by I. Franko, D. Chyjevsky, M. Bachtin, D. Luckach etc.).
